About the Community Hub

A small team of dedicated Cherry Hinton residents with the involvement of both city and county councils have been working on this project for some years. It was granted planning approval September 2020. City Council approval of it’s share of the funds required was granted in October 2021 so nearly all of the finance needed is now in place. Contracts have been awarded for the construction and building work started in June 2023.

The new hub will provide the following for the benefit of all in Cherry Hinton :

Community cafe

The need for an amenity in the centre of the community where Cherry Hinton folk can meet and perhaps have a coffee and or a snack is well established. The Sunday morning pop-up cafe at the end of the month has proved very popular. The new cafe will be mainly run by volunteers. There will be indoor and outdoor seating. The menu will be limited to hot and cold snacks and various drinks.

Meeting rooms

There will be two small meeting rooms for hire plus a 32 square metre large room which will be a valuable and much needed asset. Cherry Hinton residents will be able to use the new rooms as a space for social, cultural and business events and meetings.

Library

The library will be refurbished and much improved.

Management and staff

The hub will be run mainly by volunteers. It is set up as the “Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society” which has charity status. It is registered as a charitable community benefit society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. It is regulated by the FCA not the Charity Commission.
