Cambridge Folk Festival 2023

Each year around 14,000 people come to Cherry Hinton for the Cambridge Folk Festival. And this year the hub team was there to meet them!

The sun was shining (until Sunday afternoon at least!), the music was playing, and we had a wonderful weekend talking to the festival-goers about the new community café at Cherry Hinton Hub – mostly to let them know that they can pop over to us for a hearty breakfast next year.

It’s fantastic that the festival draws people to our corner of Cambridge from so far away. We loved hearing where people had traveled from. We spoke to people from all over the UK including Axminster in Devon, Aberdeen, and Belfast.

We took the opportunity to do a bit of fundraising from our stall – selling chilled orange juice and melody pops for the children. The melody pops had a surprisingly loud whistle – which was loved by the children and not loved quite so much by the adults! Although one talented youngster managed to get a proper tune out of hers and we were duly impressed!

On Sunday Bud the Builder took a break from the hub building site to say hello to children visiting the festival as well as giving an update to the the Mayor of Cambridge Cllr Jenny Gawthrope Wood.

We were delighted to raise £553 which will go towards the costs of outfitting the community café.

Thank you

There are lots of people to thank for helping us with this event: Cambridge City Council for giving us the pitch, Longfellow for the generous sponsorship which allowed us to buy essential items such as the card reader, Cambridge Juice Company for the appreciated discount, our brilliant team of volunteers: Mo, Jamie, Clare, Simon, Fay, Ewa, Alex, and Guy (aka Bud the Builder). And a big thank you to everyone who stopped at our stall to chat with us and make a donation.

Our next event will be the Cherry Hinton Community Showcase on August 14th on Cherry Hinton recreation ground (3-5pm).

If you would like to donate to the hub please visit our JustGiving Page. All money raised goes towards the £50,000 needed to get the community café up and running.
