Community groups reception

A big thank you to Cambridge Building Society for hosting our community groups reception on 2nd May and for providing the delicious refreshments. The Cambridge have been a key partner for the hub since November 2021.

The event was a chance for community groups to learn more about the hub and how they can support us to bring this wonderful new resource to Cherry Hinton.

It was lovely to be joined by representatives from so many community groups in Cherry Hinton, including: Cherry Hinton Allotments, Cherry Hinton Baptist Church, Cherry Hinton Men’s Social Group, Friends of St Andrew’s, Line Dancing Club, Local History Society, St Andrew’s Church, Women’s Institute, and The Young at Heart Club.

It was also lovely to catch up with Chris from the Queen Edith’s Community Forum and to compare notes on writing newsletters!

Mo gave a speech where she shared the good news about the development starting this May, how we’d like community groups to use the hub once it’s built, how we’ve been working with local businesses like Cambridge Building Society and John Lewis, and our fundraising goals.

How to help us:

  • There are still people who haven’t heard about the hub – please talk to your friends and neighbours and help us to spread the word
  • Hold a fundraising event for us (or with us!)
  • Speak to your employer about supporting the hub as part of their CSR strategy
  • Volunteer with us.

It was wonderful to hear how excited people are about the hub and that they are especially looking forward to the community café. We all are!

You can find out more about the hub at the Residents Association AGM. Join us on Thursday 18th May, 7.30–8.30pm at the Village Leisure Centre. We are hoping representatives from the building contractors, council, architects, and library service will be there to talk about what happens next.
