Bud the Builder’s Diary

Work on the new hub has begun and Bud the Builder will be keeping a diary so you can follow the progress.
Library handover – 5 May 2023
The library closed to the public on 29 April 2023. Over the next two weeks, the furniture was donated to local good causes including the much-loved library train which found a new home at Bewick Bridge Primary School. Then we were ready to hand over to the building contractors DCH.

Day 1 – 15 May 2023
The fencing goes up around the site.

Day 10 – 24 May 2023
Demolition of the library is underway.

Day 34 – 27 June 2023
The foundations go in.

Day 54 – 15 July 2023
The steel supports are in place and you can start to see the shape of the new building.

Day 70 – 31 July 2023
We have a floor and the start of the walls.

Day 98 – 28 August 2023
The front brickwork panels are complete and the scaffolding is up and ready to start putting on the roof. There’s a hole in the side that is ready for the picture window to go in.

Day 112 – 11 September 2023
The hub team – Mo, Roy, Stephen, Felicity, and Kate – went for a site visit today. We met with Becky Robertson from calfordseaden, Risa Nagasaki from Ingleton Wood, Sarah Evans from DCH Construction, and Andrew Stoter from Cambridgeshire Libraries. All the rooms are starting to take shape, which was brilliant to see. After the site visit, we sat down to discuss interior design – looking at materials and colours for the floors, doors, windows, and walls. Luckily we have Felicity, a local interior designer on the team!
